## What the free motion check does — and doesn't.

The free MotionSpec motion check is a static scan of a web page's CSS animation against two WCAG success criteria — it detects and shows specific motion candidates, each with a fix. It is not a compliance verdict, and we never promise to make your site compliant.

This page is the fine print in plain language: exactly what we read, what we can't see, how each finding maps to WCAG, what the $29 report's refund covers, and why we won't sell you a "compliance guarantee."

To be precise: MotionSpec checks and compiles UI animation in AI-generated web apps — it does not generate AI video.

## What we check — What does the free motion check actually check?

The free motion check reads a page's CSS animation and flags every place it can trip a motion-accessibility rule — testing it against WCAG 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide and WCAG 2.3.3 Animation from Interactions, and returning each issue with a copy-paste fix.

It's the same MIT-licensed engine MotionSpec runs everywhere — not a mock. You paste a URL; we fetch the page, parse its styles, and show a score with the candidates grouped by root cause. No signup, and nothing you submit is stored.

## Exact scope — What's in scope, and what the scan can't see?

The check reads one page's linked CSS files and its inline <style> blocks — and nothing else. That narrow, honest scope is what makes it fast, free, and safe to run on any URL.

**In scope — static CSS motion.** Linked stylesheets and inline <style> on the single page you enter: @keyframes, transition, animation, and whether motion sits inside a prefers-reduced-motion guard.

**Not covered — runtime & off-page motion.** Animation driven by JavaScript — including GSAP, the Web Animations API and scroll libraries — isn't read, and only the one page you enter is visited. So every result is a lower bound, not a full picture.

Because the scan is static and single-page, a clean result means "clean on the CSS we could read," not "audited and accessible." It is not a full accessibility audit and not a compliance verdict.

## How we map to WCAG — How does each finding map to WCAG?

Every candidate is tied to one of two WCAG success criteria: WCAG 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide (Level A), which leads, or WCAG 2.3.3 Animation from Interactions, which we treat as a best-practice criterion — never as an A or AA failure.

**WCAG 2.2.2 — Pause, Stop, Hide (Level A · leads).** An infinite loop a person has no way to pause is a genuine Level A item. In our 196-app study, 61.3% of 124 distinct motion signatures shipped exactly that. This is the criterion we lead with.

**WCAG 2.3.3 — Animation from Interactions (best practice).** Motion with no prefers-reduced-motion guard maps here. In the study 99.2% of 124 distinct motion signatures shipped no guard — common and worth fixing, but a best-practice gap, not a failure. We never call it one.

Two honest rules we hold to: the 2.2.2 unpausable-loop finding leads because it's the real Level A item, and the 99.2% no-guard figure is a best-practice gap we will not label a "WCAG failure." Overstating it would be the fastest way to lose your trust.

## What will you put in writing? — the find promise (Agency)

We will not sell you a "compliance guarantee" — no tool can honestly promise one. What we **will** put in writing is the detection: if the first full pass across your ten domains surfaces nothing nameable, you don't pay — first month refunded, keys stay live for thirty days.

Why we can say that: across 196 AI-generated production apps we measured on 16 July 2026, only 0.8% of 124 distinct motion signatures came back clean on these checks. So the promise costs us little — and it is the honest shape for a promise to take, because it is about what we can **name**, not about what your site *is*.

This sits next to the 14-day refund on the $29 Motion Report, not in its place. Both are voluntary and neither limits your statutory rights. The section below has not changed.

## Why we won't promise compliance — Why won't you promise my site is compliant?

MotionSpec will not sell you a "compliance guarantee" — no tool can honestly promise one, and we won't. No MotionSpec plan makes your site "EAA-compliant", "WCAG-compliant", or "guaranteed accessible." Overall conformance depends on your whole page and your legal situation, not on any one scan.

What we do promise is narrow and true: we detect and show specific motion candidates and check two WCAG criteria (2.2.2 and 2.3.3), stated with date and scope. That's a detection check — we surface and show the candidates; we never promise to make your site compliant. Need a full accessibility audit? Hire a specialist — we'll happily coexist with their audit.

## Check our work — Can I check the numbers on this site?

Yes. The figures we cite come from our own study of 196 AI-generated production apps, measured on 16 Jul 2026 — and we publish the full method and the raw data so you don't have to take our word for any of it.

We built a tool that fixes this problem, so the conflict of interest is disclosed plainly: we ran the study. The per-app dataset is anonymized (no URLs, no platform names) and published under CC-BY-4.0, re-runnable on demand.

In our first real deployment, the main content appeared in ~1.0s instead of 1.8s and the performance score rose 71→90.

## Scope & terms, in brief (FAQ)
